"Santa Catarina" - A cultural Diversified State

Santa Catarina is a beautiful state located in the South of Brazil. For years it has been acknowlodge as “The Best State to go on Vacation in Brazil”. It is safer than San Paolo or Rio de Janeiro and it is just a flight away from Argentina and Uruguay.

On the East Coast the state offers 450km of white sand beaches. On the Western side we find Argentina and the world famous Iguaçu Falls rigth on the Brazilian-Argentinian border.

The state was colonized by many nationalities of immigrants, such as: Italians, Germans, Austrians, Japanese and so on…. In some regions German is the language spoken by families for generations, others regions are rather characterized by Italian Culture.

This rich cultural environment brings to “Santa Catarina” a unique set of people and its culture. In the West, Germans and Italians are all mixed with up with "gauchos" from Uruguay and Paraguay, concerning language, culture, songs, dances, food…. And there is a lot ot great food: pasta, pizza, barbecue, apfelstrudel...

On the European Valley, 70 kilometers away from Balneário Camboriú, German is the second (sometimes the first one, like in the city of Pomerode) language spoken. All the traditional food in Germany can easily be found all over the region.

Blumenau, named after Dr. Otto Blumenau, a German Pharmacist, is the home of the second biggest Oktoberfest in the world, losing in size only to the Octoberfest in Munich, Germany. Bierwagen, Biergarden, Strudel and Schnitzel are part of its daily life as is a part of the Octoberfest Festival.

In October, tourist will find parties all over the European Valley. Food, music, festivals, dancing, all to celebrate its colonization.

On the Mountain Plateau (Planalto Serrano), there is the place to be in Winter for those that are looking for snow! Santa Catarina is the state which is most suited to snow activities in winter. From the Mountain Plateau to Balneário Camboriú it is a bit more than a three-hour drive.

On the East Cost there is a mix of Spanish and Germans people - all over the coast. The capital of the state is an Island called as Florianópolis. Also known as "Ilha da Magia" or Enchanted Island. Or simply called by residents as "Floripa". The island is well known by its beaches: more than a hundred beaches can be found all over the island. The most sought-after neighborhood, “Jurerê International” is on the northern island. Villas, mansions and a Miami-like lifestyle transformed the northern part of the island one of the most exclusive one.

A driving distance away from Florianópolis, Balneário Camboriú is a city full of life! Skyscrapers are all over the town. Restaurants, retail stores, luxury life-style can be found on the Atlantic Avenue. There are many attractions in the city (as you may find out more on the "Balneário Camboriú as a Tourist Destination post).

Up North the state has a border with “Paraná”, a state named after the second-longest river in South America. Losing in length just to the Amazon River. Its capital is Curitiba, and it is around 4 hoursaway, driving up north from Balneário Camboriú.

The biggest city in the state may be found up north: Joinville! In the city has the German colonization can be easily recognized on its streets, its food, its decoration, its organization….The city of Joinville is the only city out of Russia to have a Ballet Bolshoy's branch as well, as being well known by holding the famous Dancing Festival.

Down to the South, Rio Grande do Sul (Big South River) is the southern state of Brazil and it shares its culture with the European Immigrants, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. The capital is Porto Alegre and it is a 6-hour drive from Balneário Camboriú.

Both, “Porto Alegre” and “Curitiba” offers international airports, as well as Florianópolis and Navegantes. Actually, Florianópolis is a 2-hour flight from Buenos Aires, Argentina as well.

Santa Catarina is a lovely state to live, to get away on vacation our whatever opportunity life throws at you. I hope one day more people will have the opportunity to taste its great food; to meet great people and to visit great places in Santa Catarina! Visit Saint and Beautiful Catarina is the slogan of the State!

Santa Catarina ist ein wunderschönes Bundesland im Süden Brasiliens. Seit Jahren gilt es als „der beste Staat, um in Brasilien Urlaub zu machen“. Es ist sicherer als São Paulo oder Rio de Janeiro und nur einen Flug von Argentinien und Uruguay entfernt.

An der Ostküste bietet das Bundesland 450 km weiße Sandstrände. Auf der Westseite finden wir Argentinien und die weltberühmten Iguaçu-Wasserfälle an der brasilianisch-argentinischen Grenze.

Das Bundesland wurde von vielen Nationalitäten von Einwanderern kolonialisiert, darunter: Italiener, Deutsche, Österreicher, Japaner und so weiter. In einigen Regionen ist Deutsch die Sprache, die seit Generationen von Familien gesprochen wird, in anderen Regionen ist die italienische Kultur eher ausgeprägt.

Dieses reichhaltige kulturelle Umfeld erzeugt in "Santa Catarina“ eine einzigartige Gruppe von Menschen und ihre Kultur. Im Westen mischen sich Deutsche und Italiener mit "Gauchos" aus Uruguay und Paraguay in Bezug auf Sprache, Kultur, Lieder, Tänze, Essen ... Und es gibt viel gutes Essen: Pasta, Pizza, Barbecue, Apfelstrudel ...

Im Europäischen Tal, 70 Kilometer von Balneário Camboriú entfernt, wird Deutsch als die zweite (manchmal die erste, wie in der Stadt Pomerode) Sprache gesprochen. Alle traditionellen Speisen aus Deutschland sind in der ganzen Region leicht zu finden.

Auf dem Bergplateau (Planalto Serrano) gibt es den besten Ort im Winter für diejenigen, die Schnee suchen! Santa Catarina ist der Staat, der im Winter am besten für Schneeaktivitäten geeignet ist. Vom Bergplateau nach Balneário Camboriú sind es etwas mehr als drei Autostunden.

Im Osten gibt es eine Mischung aus Spaniern und Deutschen - überall an der Küste. Die Hauptstadt des Staates ist eine Insel namens Florianópolis. Auch bekannt als "Ilha da Magia" oder "Enchanted Island". Oder einfach von den Bewohnern als "Floripa" bezeichnet. Die Insel ist bekannt für ihre Strände: Über hundert Strände befinden sich auf der ganzen Insel. Das begehrteste Viertel, „Jurerê International“, befindet sich auf der Nordinsel. Villen, Villen und ein Miami-ähnlicher Lebensstil verwandelten den nördlichen Teil der Insel in einen der exklusivsten.

Balneário Camboriú liegt eine Autofahrt von Florianópolis entfernt und ist eine Stadt voller Leben! Wolkenkratzer sind überall in der Stadt. Restaurants, Einzelhandelsgeschäfte und luxuriöser Lebensstil finden Sie an der Atlantic Avenue. Es gibt viele Sehenswürdigkeiten in der Stadt (wie Sie vielleicht mehr über die erfahren können im Abschnitt "Balneário Camboriú als Touristenziel“).

Im Norden grenzt das Bundesland an „Paraná“, eine Region, die nach dem zweitlängsten Fluss Südamerikas benannt ist. Die Hauptstadt ist Curitiba, und es ist ungefähr 4 Stunden entfernt, nördlich von Balneário Camboriú.

Die größte Stadt des Bundesstaates befindet sich im Norden: Joinville! In der Stadt ist die deutsche Kolonialisierung auf ihren Straßen, ihrem Essen, ihrer Dekoration, ihrer Organisation leicht zu erkennen. Die Stadt Joinville ist die einzige Stadt außerhalb Russlands, in der es auch eine Niederlassung des Bolshoi Theater gibt.

Im Süden ist Rio Grande do Sul (Big South River) der südliche Bundesstaat Brasiliens und teilt seine Kultur mit den europäischen Einwanderern, Argentinien, Paraguay und Uruguay. Die Hauptstadt ist Porto Alegre und ist eine 6-stündige Fahrt von Balneário Camboriú entfernt.

Sowohl "Porto Alegre" als auch "Curitiba" bieten internationale Flughäfen wie Florianópolis und Navegantes. Tatsächlich ist Florianópolis nur 2 Flugstunden von Buenos Aires entfernt.

Santa Catarina ist ein wunderschöner Staat, um zu leben und in den Urlaub zu fahren, was auch immer das Leben Ihnen bietet. Ich hoffe, dass eines Tages mehr Menschen die Gelegenheit haben werden, das großartige Essen zu probieren, um tolle Leute kennenzulernen und tolle Orte in Santa Catarina zu besuchen!
